PICEANCE CREEK SHALE OIL PROJECT
These photos taken with a little 110 pocket film camera(waaayyy before digital) Occidental petroleum Shale oil project at Piceance Creek, Colorado. Site is about 40 miles north of Rifle, Colorado and about 20 miles up in the mountains. Site was completed in 1983 -then shut down without ever being put on line, many miles of mine shafts and tunnels were flooded to prevent collapse.

The building on the right is the main shaft head building, it is where the giant muck/man/equipment buckets are lowered into the maim mine shaft. The building is about 700 feet tall. The building on the left is the service building, over the service shaft., about 300 feet tall.
