ATLANTIS - THE LAST SPACE SHUTTLE

STS-135 Shuttle Atlantis waits on the launch pad to make history as the last space shuttle flight. The shuttle program will end at the conclusion of this mission. Early in the morning of June 1st, 2011 Shuttle Endeavour was landing from it`s last flight at the same time Shuttle Atlantis was being moved aboard the huge crawler transport to launch pad 39-A - they passed less than two miles apart.   • Shuttle Endeavour landed a few hours earlier, it is being made safe before it is put into the hanger. It will be processed, then transported to California to be put on display.

  • A wood and fiberglass mockup of the space shuttle built by private persons, it was transported by rail from California and now resides in a field just past the security gate at KSC.
